    • These students must have completed the first year of the accounting program.
  • Shall be attending an accredited college, university or professional school of accounting; and
  • Need not be a member of the American Society of Women Accountants.

From The Desks of Cathy Allen, CPA and Denise Probert, CPA,
2009-2010 Foundation Scholarship Chairs

Dear ASWA Chapter President and Scholarship Chair:

We are excited to deliver our 2010-2011 scholarship applications.  We have provided links to the separate scholarship application forms for you to use if you wish.  The application forms provided below are for the 2-Year and Undergraduate Scholarships, the CPA Review Scholarship, and for the Certification Scholarship.  If you wish to use these forms, you should customize them with your chapter's contact information before making them available to candidates.

IMPORTANT!!!!  We are asking the Chapters to provide the following for every scholarship that you submit an application for:

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS (OPEN for all applicants) 2-Year and Undergraduate Scholarships

These items should be submitted by email to foundation@aswa.org.  Please add your email address (this will be your signature) to the bottom of the submission letters so that we can contact you if we have questions. As a chapter, you can submit one application for each of the different scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (for ASWA members only) Becker Review, Yaeger Review and Kaplan Review Scholarships

The applications are to be sent by the ASWA member directly to The Foundation.  This change was made since not all chapters offered a CPA Review Scholarship to their members and therefore not all ASWA members were able to participate.   This change allows all ASWA members to participate in the program on the National level.  The ASWA member must apply by March 1 and or November 1 to The Foundation for a CPA Review Scholarship. The application form is available on The Foundation's website.

If your chapter has a program on the local level, please continue to offer this to your members or students from your local colleges and universities.

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (for ASWA members only) Certification Scholarship

The applications for the certification scholarships are to be sent to The Foundation by the ASWA member. These applications are due to The Foundation by March 1 and November 1. The Foundation will award this scholarship in late spring and fall to our ASWA members.  The application form is available on The Foundation's website.

Again if your chapter offers a Certification Scholarship, please continue with your program.

In support of our mission, the program was developed by the leaders of The Foundation for the purpose of assisting women in need of financial support to pursue their goals of higher education or certification.

In this, the sixth year of the program, we hope to provide as many scholarships as possible but are limited by our fundraising activities.  If you or your company are able to donate these important funds to the mission of the ASWA Educational Foundation, use the following link to make a secure online donation:  The Foundation Donation Form.

The 2010-2011 ASWA Educational Foundation scholarships that are to be awarded in May 2010 are as follows:

  • ASWA Member Scholarships

  1. Certification - To support the exam fees of ASWA members for any one of the following certifications:  CPA, CFP, CFE, CIA, CMA, or CVA.

  2. Becker Review - To provide registration for a Becker CPA Review.

  3. Yaeger Review - To provide registration for a Yaeger Review Course

  4. Kaplan Review - To provide registration for a Kaplan Review Course

  • 2- Year College Scholarships - For those attending Community, State or 2- Year Colleges and are pursing an associate accounting or finance degree.

  • Undergraduate Scholarships - To support the costs of attending 3rd, 4th, or 5th year and are pursuing an accounting or finance degree.

CHAPTER INFORMATION:

The deadline for submitting completed 2-year and undergraduate applications to the Foundation is April 1, 2010.  Chapters may nominate only one candidate per scholarship and only completed candidate submissions will be considered.

Each chapter establishes its own scholarship program, and the following are provided as suggestions to help you in that process (if your chapter does not have an established scholarship program, we suggest that you adopt The Foundation criteria as a model for your chapter scholarship program).  As a chapter you may still submit applicants to the National level even if you do not award any scholarships on the chapter level.

  1. We suggest that you set a chapter deadline for receipt of applications that would allow sufficient time to submit your candidates to The Foundation by April 1, 2010.
  1. Applications may be solicited by contacting the financial aid offices or accounting professors of your local colleges and universities.  Or, consider accepting applications from residents who are enrolled in accredited institutions outside the chapter's geographic area.
  1. Your submission of candidates presumes that the chapter has verified the validity of the transcripts provided.

Submittals should be emailed to foundation@aswa.org.

Any questions regarding the scholarship selection process or this letter may be directed to (703) 506-3265.  The staff will be happy to assist you in any way they can.
