through a community college, a junior college or an accredited trade school.
- These students must have completed
the first year of the
accounting program.
- Shall be attending an accredited college, university or
professional school of accounting; and
- Need not be a member of the American Society of Women
Accountants.

From the Desk of Cathy Allen, CPA,
2009-2010 Foundation Scholarship Chair
Dear ASWA Chapter President and
Scholarship Chair:
We are excited to deliver our 2009-2010 scholarship applications. We
have attached separate scholarship application forms for you to use if
you wish. The application forms attached are for the 2-Year and
Undergraduate scholarships, the Becker Review scholarship and the
Certification scholarship. If you wish to use these forms, you should
customize them with your chapter’s contact information before making
them available to candidates.
IMPORTANT!!!! We are asking the Chapters to complete a submission letter
and return only the submission letter and the applicant’s personal essay
for the 2-Year and Undergraduate scholarships and the Becker Review
scholarship and the applicant’s personal resume for the Certification
scholarship to the Foundation. These two items should be submitted by
email to
foundationscholarship@aswa.org. As a chapter, you can submit one
application for each of the four different scholarships. For every
scholarship that you submit applications for, you need to complete a
submission letter and send the essay and or the resume for the
certification submission. You need to add your email address (this will
be your signature) to the bottom of the submission letters so that we
can contact you if we have questions.
In support of our mission, the program was developed by the leaders of
The Foundation for the purpose of assisting women in need of financial
support to pursue their goals of higher education or certification. The
application form template, eligibility requirements and criteria are
provided as separate attachments to this email.
In this, the fifth year of the program, we hope to provide as many
scholarships as possible but are limited by our fundraising activities.
If you or your company are able to donate these important funds to the
mission of the ASWA Educational Foundation, use the following link to
make a secure online donation: Foundation Donation Form.
The 2009 – 2010 ASWA Educational Foundation scholarships are as follows:
- ASWA Member Scholarships
- Certification - To
support the exam fees of ASWA members for any one of the
following certifications: CPA, CFP, CFE, CIA, CMA or CVA.
- Becker Review – To
provide registration for a Becker CPA Review.
- 2-Year College Scholarships
- For those attending Community, State or 2-Year Colleges towards an
accounting or finance degree.
- Undergraduate Scholarships
- To support the costs of attending 3rd, 4th or 5th year towards an
accounting or finance degree.
The
chapter deadline for submitting completed applications to The Foundation
is April 1, 2009. Chapters may nominate only one candidate
per scholarship and only completed candidate submissions will be
considered.
Each chapter establishes its own scholarship program, and the following
are provided as suggestions to help you in that process (if your chapter
does not have an established scholarship program, we suggest that you
adopt The Foundation criteria as a model for your chapter scholarship
program):
- We suggest that you set a
chapter deadline for receipt of applications that would allow
sufficient time to submit your candidates to The Foundation by April
1, 2009.
- Applications may be
solicited by contacting the financial aid offices or accounting
professors of your local colleges and universities. Or, consider
accepting applications from residents who are enrolled in accredited
institutions outside the chapter’s geographic area.
- Your submission of
candidates presumes that the chapter has verified the validity of
the transcripts provided.
Submittals should be emailed to
foundationscholarship@aswa.org. Any questions regarding the
scholarship selection process or this letter, may be directed to (703)
506-3265. The staff will be happy to assist you in any way they can.
